The Agilent 2100 BioAnalyzer is a rapid, high resolution capillary electrophoresis system used to analyze RNA or DNA samples. We have established the following guidelines for use of the system:
Effective March 1, 2006: A fee of $10 will be charged for each BioAnalyzer chip run. This charge will be in addition to any charges for materials consumed by the user.
1. Contact administrator to establish your account. Please provide complete first and last name. You will receive an email response with your new Username and Password.
Administrator is available 8am-2pm, M-F.
2. You are required to make an appointment for training with a lab member prior to your first use of equipment. Please email:
Yanxia Hao
or
Linda Ta
Expect the initial training to take about 1 hour and subsequent sample runs should take about 30 minutes.
3. Please be sure to sign up for each use in advance. If you do not, you will be at risk of being bumped from the system by someone who has!
4. Each user must provide their own BioAnalyzer chips, kits and size standards unless alternative arrangements have been previously made. Ordering information for these kits can be found at:
chem.agilent.com*
5. The RNA 6000 Nano kit (12 samples/chip) has a working range of 10-500 ng while the RNA 6000 Pico kit (11 samples/chip) has a working range of 400- 5000 pg. You will need 1 ul per sample with both kits.
6. All users are limited to two(2) 2-hour registration blocks per day. If you think you need more time than this, you must obtain previous permission from the Genomics Core Lab.
7. All runs must be logged in completely along with any comments regarding problems noted. We can’t fix a problem if we don’t know about it!
8. The BioAnalyzer is extremely susceptible to problems due to poor cleaning. It is essential that all cleaning protocols be followed completely as soon as each run is completed. Failure to do so will jeopardize your ability to use the system in the future!
