The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most beautiful places to live in the world. It is also one of the most expensive. To address the special financial challenges posed by working and living in the Bay Area, the new plan provides for higher compensation. Salaries Salaries for postdoctoral fellows and research scientists are based on national and local survey data. Benefits Gladstone offers a comprehensive set of benefits, which is outlined in the summary of benefits section. Housing Allowance The plan includes a housing allowance of 5% of salary. Moving Assistance A lump sum payment of $1,500 is given to all new postdoctoral fellows to help defray the costs of moving and setting up a household in the Bay Area. Gladstone Scholars Program The plan creates a Gladstone Scholars Program, allowing postdoctoral fellows to accept the added benefits associated with winning prestigious and competitive fellowships (e.g., Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Pfizer, Damon-Runyon). In addition, a new position recognizing the career development step for K01 or K08 recipients is under active development. Promotion Opportunities The new plan provides for the possibility of promotion to research scientist after 3 years. Promotion is based solely on merit and scientific achievement. Promotion to research scientist includes a salary increase above the typical postdoctoral fellow level and participation in the Gladstone retirement program. All Gladstone years will count toward vesting, resulting in 60% vesting if promoted at the 3-year mark. Fairness The plan is completely transparent, equitable, and free of bias. Salary is determined by qualifying years of postgraduate experience. Provided overall performance is satisfactory, salary adjustments are based on a published scale. |
