Senior Research Associate/Pyrosequencing Technologist
The laboratory of Dr. Robert Grant is looking for a Senior Research Associate/Pyrosequencing Technologist to conduct sequencing using pyrosequencing. Duties include optimization of PCR reactions, preparation of nucleic acids, all chemistry, and basic sequence analysis. The person would evaluate hardware options, including purchase, contracts, or collaborative outsourcing, including assessment of quality assurance, throughput, and costs. Bachelor's degree required with 7+ years of experience. Experience with successful pyrosequencing is essential. Thorough knowledge of the limitation of technology is essential. Experience with pyrosequencing on the 454 platform is essential. V11-01W.
Research Associate
The laboratory of Dr. Lennart Mucke, Director of he Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease, is looking for a Research Associate to assist him and his Senior Research Associate in the management of a large laboratory and to conduct experiments in mouse models of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. BS/BA in Neuroscience or Molecular Biology with 1-2 years of experience in biomedical sciences preferred. The candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and should have mouse handling experience. The position also requires proficiency in molecular biology (DNA/RNA isolation and qPCR), immunochemistry (western blot, tissue staining and ELISA) and cell culture techniques. Research Technologist
The Gladstone Behavioral Core seeks a research technologist with expertise in rodent behavioral testing to characterize mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases and evaluate the behavioral effects of potential therapeutic interventions. Responsibilities include the following: Experiment Planning and Design, Behavioral Testing, Data Anaylsis and Interpretation. Some weekend work is required. BS/BA required in Biology or Psychology. Experience with rodent behavioral testing and/or animal models of learning and memory. Ability to analyze data and perform basic statistical tests. Experience with statistical software and surgical skills a plus. Strong computer skills. Outstanding time management skills and initiative are essential. N11-01W.
Research Associate
The Conklin lab is looking for an Research Associate to take on the challenge of developing, initiating, and managing a series of stem cell related projects. A 2 year commitment is required. The candidate should have a B.S. or M.S. in biological sciences, with demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in molecular biology (molecular cloning, restriction cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, transfection, viral vectors, sequence analysis software), and interest in mammalian cell culture (human embryonic stem and iPS cells). 1-2 years experience in a laboratory setting is required. Additional desirable experience includes high throughput cloning methods, RNA isolation, and designing new vectors. The candidate should also be a "self-starter," be able to work independently with appropriate guidance, be willing to ask for advice when needed, but be able to work well as part of a scientific team. The candidate should be collaborative, inquisitive, have excellent organizational and problem solving skills, and have strong verbal/written communication skills. C11-02W
Research Associate/Data Analyst
The Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology is seeking a Scientific Data Analyst to join our team working on Global iPrEx, an international HIV prevention clinical trial of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP, using HIV drugs to prevent infection) among men who have sex with men. Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and execute a data cleaning and management plan and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ~25,000 existing longitudinal social and behavioral assessments and also for continuing research. To support on-going data collection activities including local web-hosting of computer assisted self interviews (CASI) in 4 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and Thai) which are administered at 11 l trial sites in 6 countries. Work with the in-house IT department and local CASI developer to troubleshoot online questionnaire access and completion at sites. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, collaborating investigators, Research Associates, Protocol Statistician and iPrEx Data Center on the development of comprehensive and targeted data sets: Develop a master database (preferably Microsoft Access-based). Checks of variable names, labels, skip patterns, and appropriate formatting. Write programs for variable and value labels. Develop recodes, compute new variables, and create final data sets for analyses to support working groups dedicated to diverse biological, medical, and behavioral sub studies. Import and export datasets as required by study investigators into alternate program formats (e.g., STATA, SAS, SPSS, and Excel). Perform descriptive and inferential analyses on behavioral and demographic data. Prepare tables and descriptions of analyses and format results tables for presentation in slides and manuscripts for publication. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Health, Behavioral Science, or other Social Science degree. Enthusiasm for working with data related to the HIV prevention field. Experience and proficiency with data manipulation including recoding, new variable creation, data imports and merges, and dataset reshaping (STATA and/or SAS preferred). Experience and proficiency with advanced statistical software required, preferably STATA and SAS, SPSS also a plus. Experience with longitudinal data analysis preferred, especially for HIV studies. Experience in formatting results tables for presentation in slides and manuscripts for publication (e.g. Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, MAC Keynote). Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred, Portuguese and/or Thai also a plus. V10-11W.
Research Technologist
The person in this position will be reporting to the Histology Core Manager. Must be able to work within a core laboratory that provides Institutes-wide research services, to develop and implement specific plans and laboratory procedures to perform various analyses supporting the investigation of complex scientific problems. Responsible for half the core request workload as well as development of new techniques as required by current scientific advances or requested by Gladstone researchers. Jointly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of core equipment. Responsible for maintenance, training and support of microscopy systems currently in the core and also in individual researchers labs around the institute. Required qualifications: The candidate’s expertise should include research (animal) histology techniques, animal dissection and necropsy, light microscopy (including epifluorescent, confocal and multi-photon techniques), photography, and digital and image analysis. Ability to interact with researchers on a scientific and function level. Immunohistochemistry experience is a must and in-situ hybridization experience is a plus. Experience in handling neurological samples is a strong plus. Requires a minimum of BA/BS plus 5 years relevant experience. Job #C10-08W.
SRA/Scientific Project Manager
We are seeking a SRA/ Scientific Project Manager to oversee a series of advanced research projects that focus on stem cell biology, genetics and pharmacology. The projects involve collaborations with highly motivated team of postdoctoral fellows, research associates from the Conklin Lab and close collaborators. The Conklin Lab already has a lab manager to organize reagents, protocols and purchases. The SRA/ Scientific Project Manager would directly participate in experiments, coordinate projects to meet defined goals, and help with writing. The candidate should have strong skills in cellular/molecular biology, an inquisitive mind and motivation to take on challenging projects. The preferred experience for the SRA/ Scientific Project Manager is PhD or equivalent, and at least 3 years of postdoctoral training.
