Supporting Gladstone
Benefits
The following is a summary of benefits offered to Gladstone full-time salaried employees. Part-time salaried employees may be eligible for some benefits. Generally, eligibility for most benefits begins on the first of the month following the date of hire, unless otherwise noted.

Medical Coverage
Gladstone provides health insurance coverage for employee and dependents at a minimal cost. Three options are available:
XXXKaiser Permanente — HMO
XXXEBA&M — Preferred Access (PHCS and CCN Networks)
XXXEBA&M — PPO (PHCS and CCN Networks)

Dental Coverage
Gladstone provides dental insurance coverage for employee and dependents at a minimal cost

Vision Coverage
Gladstone provides and contributes 100% of the monthly premium for vision insurance coverage through VSP for employees and their legal dependents under a preferred provider plan.

Domestic Partnership Coverage
Gladstone extends the same benefits to same sex domestic partnerships, including their children.

Flexible Benefit Plan
The Plan allows employees to pay for certain expenses (medical care and dependent care costs) for themselves and their legal dependents with pre-tax dollars, rather than dollars that have already had Federal, State, and FICA taxes taken from them.

Vacation
Vacation accrues from the date of employment and is based on years of service. Vacation accrues monthly for eligible employees as follows:

0-4 years
15 days a year, accrued at 10 hours a month
5-9 years
18 days a year, accrued at 12 hours a month
10-14 years
21 days a year, accrued at 14 hours a month
15+ years
24 days a year, accrued at 16 hours a month

Holidays
Gladstone has twelve (12) paid holidays per year that eligible employees receive starting from date of hire. Gladstone recognizes the following holidays:
New Year's Day; Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; the day after Thanksgiving; and 5 days scheduled at year end called Winter Break.

Sick Time
Sick time accrues from the date of hire at rate of eight (8) hours a month. Sick times carries over. An eligible employee may accumulate up to a total of 1,040 hours of sick time.

403(b) Retirement Savings Plan
Employees may redirect pretax earnings to a 403(b) retirement plan, and distribute the money among investment options with either Fidelity or TIAA-CREF.

Gladstone Pension Plan
Gladstone contributes an amount equal to 15% of annual earnings to a defined-contribution pension plan for eligible employees. Contributions are invested in a TIAA-CREF account and distributed among investment options per employee direction. Contributions in this account vest per the following schedule:

After 2 years of service: 20% vested
After 3 years of service: 40% vested
After 4 years of service: 60% vested
After 5 years of service: 80% vested

After 6 years of service: 100% vested

Employees become eligible on the next eligibility date following one year of service. Eligibility dates are January 1 and July 1 each year. Postdoctoral Fellows and Visiting Researchers are not eligible for this benefit.

Life and AD&D Insurance
Gladstone provides and contributes 100% of the monthly premium for both life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for employees. Life insurance coverage equals 1.5 times annualized salary. Postdoctoral Fellows and Research Scientists receive coverage at $50,000, regardless of salary

Optional Term Life Insurance
Gladstone employees may purchase additional term life insurance, at their own expense, for coverage of up to 5 times annual salary, in increments of $20,000. Term life insurance coverage for spouse and children may also be purchased.

Short-Term Disability
Coverage ensures eligible employees receive 100% of their salary until accrued sick leave is exhausted. Thereafter, eligible employees will receive 66 2/3% of salary. Coverage is coordinated with State Disability Insurance and will not exceed a total period of 6 months per incident.

Long-Term Disability
Coverage ensures eligible employees receive 66 2/3% of their salary while receiving long-term disability insurance.

Safe America Credit Union & Golden 1 Credit Union
Gladstone employees have the option to join Safe America Credit Union or Golden 1 Credit Union, receiving low interest loans and other savings that credit unions afford their members.

Fitness Benefit
Gladstone will reimburse employees $75 annually towards the cost of fitness club membership dues.

Employee Assistance Program
The EAP is a resource to assist employees and their family members in managing issues that affect their daily lives.

Gladstone Extension Training and Development Program
The Gladstone Extension is an in-house program designed to provide training and development opportunities to employees at all levels of the organization in the form computer classes and professional development workshops.

Tuition Reimbursement
Eligible employees who have completed a year of service are eligible to receive up to $1,000 per calendar year for approved tuition expenses. Courses must be approved in advance and a "C" or better grade must be received.

Employee Educational Series
Quarterly educational seminars on matters related to benefits, retirement, and financial planning.

Parking
The pre-tax parking permit program program allows for a tax free deduction to be made semi-monthly from your paycheck to cover the cost of a parking permit at the Mission Bay Campus. Similar to the medical and dependant care reimbursement program, the amount deducted form your paycheck for your parking permit will not be subject to payroll tax withholdings. This results in a reduction of your taxable earnings.

Commuter Checks
Commuter Checks are discounted vouchers for public transportation such as MUNI, BART, or Cal-Train. These vouchers are available for purchase through pre-tax payroll deduction. There is also free shuttle services between SFGH and 24th St. BART, UCSF, and Mt. Zion.
