Gladstone's Student Outreach Committee and Community Outreach Program promote science education and scientific careers for underrepresented students in San Francisco public schools. Each summer, Gladstone offers a unique opportunity for past Gladstone Scholars who participated in the National Student Leadership Conference to intern in our laboratories doing biomedical research. Each intern is matched up with a mentor for an eight-week internship at Gladstone that culminates in a poster session to highlight his or her summer research project. |

“I learned about what it is like to be a real scientist. I was so surprised that you can have so much fun while working in the lab. Lastly, I found out that real science is a lot different from textbook science. I enjoyed this internship more than any vacation or program that I have ever been on, and I've been on some amazing vacations. Not only did I gain a massive amount of knowledge, I collected a library of inside jokes and priceless memories. After being an intern, I simply wouldn't mind working at Gladstone for the rest of my life.”
- Ben Martinez, Gladstone Intern
“This summer has been a very unique and awesome experience. This internship is actually my first job, so what better first job than to be able to work with scientists in a lab. I learned so many things through hands on work from doing immunostaining to counting hundreds of neurons on a computer screen.”
- Jaime Louie, Gladstone Intern
