The
Community Outreach Committee, committed to inspiring
future scientists and research staff, invites you to participate in programs
that promote science education and scientific careers for students and minorities
in our community.
In collaboration
with the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC), Gladstone provides NSLC
scholarships to eligible high school students in the community to attend
an 10-day summer conference to foster leadership qualities in the fields of
medicine and healthcare. We are partners
with local schools, including Junipero Serra Elementary School in Bernal
Heights and Philip and Sala Burton Academic High School in Visitacion Valley. Each summer, Gladstone hosts high school students
doing laboratory internships
through UCSF's Science & Health Education Partnership.
The committee is working to strengthen its current programs. With the public's
suggestions, committee members plan to develop new programs and activities that
capture students' imaginations, introduce them to the wonders of science,
and demonstrate the discoveries taking place here at Gladstone.
We want to share our excellent scientific talent and the depth of our scientific
experience with students, especially with underrepresented minorities in our
neighborhood schools. Please get
in touch with us and let us know how we can be of service to you.
