The goal
of the Distinguished Visiting Scholar Program is to host mini-sabbatical visits
by outstanding scientists who have a demonstrated interest in promoting diversity
in science, or a unique experience or perspective on diversity in science.
These mini-sabbaticals
are part of a broader diversity program at the Gladstone Institutes to raise
awareness of gender and ethnicity issues in science. A key feature of the Distinguished
Visiting Scholar Program is to expose Gladstone scientists to scholars who are
characterized by excellence in science and have a demonstrated interest in promoting
diversity in science. The multi-day mini-sabbatical nature of these visits provides
a good opportunity for the visiting scholars to serve as a role model and to
provide Gladstone scientists-in-training with exposure to outstanding senior
scientists from diverse backgrounds.
