Two GIVI researchers, Laura Saunders, PhD, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Verdin Lab, and Silke Wissing, PhD, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Greene Lab, were awarded Gladstone California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Scholarships for 2008.
Drs. Saunders and Wissing, along with five other Gladstonians, were chosen from a highly competitive field of 11 applicants for these scholarships. The other 2008 CIRM scholars are: Chulan Kwon, Edward
Hsiao, Kathryn Ivey, Jin-A Lee and Gang Li.
The J. David Gladstone Institutes was awarded a three year CIRM grant starting in 2006 to create a CIRM Scholars Training Program focusing on stem cell research. This training grant, part of CIRM's first round of awards, has enabled Gladstone to develop and implement an intensive stem cell-specific curriculum for 10 postdoctoral fellows over a three-year period.
Gladstone is now ranked 8th in the state for receiving CIRM funds. For more information on the various Gladstone stem cell research projects, stem cell biology and policy issues, and links to CIRM, click
