Target Audience The Lipid Disorders Courses are educational opportunities designed specifically for cardiologists and other physicians, pharmacists, nurses, dietitians, and other providers who are interested in learning more about managing various lipid disorders.
MINIFELLOWSHIPS
This two-and-a-half-day course features lectures and case discussions of lipid treatment guidelines, diagnosis of various dyslipidemias, dietary and pharmacologic treatments for lipid disorders, factors influencing treatment, and results of recent clinical trials.
A unique feature of the Minifellowship is a one-day demonstration clinic in which course participants see Gladstone Lipid Clinic patients and analyze their treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, you will be better able to:
Determine the role of hyperlipidemia and other known or emerging risk factors in coronary heart disease progression;
Describe the full range of hypolipidemic pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments available to optimize patient outcomes, considering long-term clinical trial and safety data;
Discuss recent findings in vascular pathophysiology, exploring the role of endothelial function and plaque stabilization in the development of coronary heart disease;
Develop treatment strategies to improve outcomes for high-risk patients such as diabetics and individuals with familial lipid disorders and for the under-treated patient such as women and elderly.

The one-day Updates are designed for graduates of our basic course and as an advanced lipidology course for cardiologists, endocrinologists, and others experienced in the management of dyslipidemic patients.

Thomas P. Bersot, MD, PhD, course director, is an associate investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, where he conducts research in HDL metabolism. He is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and director of the Lipid Clinic at San Francisco General Hospital.
Mikelle McCoin, MPH, RD, is a consulting nutrition educator at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and a lecturer in nutritional sciences and toxicology at the University of California, Berkeley. She counsels patients with dyslipidemia, evaluates research, and teaches on the management of dyslipidemia.
CRITERIA FOR SUCCESS
Statements of credit will be awarded based on the participant's attendance and submission of the activity evaluation form.
