SPIN



SPIN is a unique three-volume nutrition and heart disease prevention
curriculum for use in elementary schools. The second edition, that contains more than 1,000 pages of current information, is now available. The Program also includes a family education component and a cookbook, with some ethnic recipes.





SPIN was developed by the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular
Disease, a biomedical research institute affiliated with the University
of California, San Francisco, and is located at the San Francisco General
Hospital.




Volume I

Parental component--often missing in other health and nutrition curricula--provides continuity with what is being taught in the classroom and practiced at home.




Volume II

Teacher's manual contains complete lesson plans, background information, worksheets, supplementary material, and clever cartoon characters.




Cookbook

Low fat, low cholesterol recipes, charts, other useful information
for modifying eating patterns, plus instruction for children to help them
develop skills in healthful food selection.
