Postdoctoral Advisor

John LeViathan, Human Resources Manager for the Gladstone Institutes, also serves as the postdoctoral advisor. He is the primary contact for postdoctoral fellows for employee relations, conflict resolution issues, and career development and counseling.

Mentoring

Help to develop mentoring standards and a mentoring network in conjunction with fellows and investigators.

Assist in the design and implementation of a tool to assess mentor effectiveness and facilitate incorporation of feedback to the mentor through the performance appraisal process.

Organize mentor training.

Conflict Resolution

Serve as a neutral and confidential resource for addressing issues/problems between fellows and mentors.

Career Development

Counsel fellows on job opportunities and requirements and facilitate networking opportunities with Gladstone alumni, business leaders, and search firms.

Promote interactions between fellows and industry representatives to discuss opportunities in biotech and pharmaceutical industries in areas such as genomics, bioinformatics, intellectual property, teaching, and manufacturing.

Establish career development resources for postdoctoral fellows, including examples of CVs and research plans, information on local career planning seminars, professional organization activities, and grants training workshops.
