How To Use the Core
|
| A transgenic user meeting is typically held the first Monday of each month to set the upcoming work schedule and injection/implant priorities. An investigator who requires Core services is encouraged to attend a meeting to review their needs, schedule their experiments, and arrange individual consultation if desired. Users may also contact the Core directly to schedule consultation or to follow up on work in progress. Since each construct may have unique features affecting DNA preparation that are understood best by individual labs, investigators prepare their own constructs. The Core recommends specific DNA preparation protocols (to be posted on the Core website) that are best for pronuclear microinjection. DNA is submitted to the Core in advance of scheduled work accompanied by a form (to be posted on the Core website) with construct documentation and recharge information. Costs for Core services are based on direct expenses for animal purchases and housing, reagents, and supplies used, and personnel effort. Following embryo implantation, recipient females are assigned to investigator accounts. The recipients typically are housed in the Gladstone barrier facility to monitor gestation and nursing behavior prior to transfer to the investigator's animal housing space. Transgenic Core service costs are discussed with each user in advance of scheduled work, and follow-up review with investigators is done.
